Child Poverty Issues in the African Communities in Haringey

AWWG working in partnership with both voluntary and statutory orgnasitions launched a child poverty event on the 13th March 2010 to increase the African communities awareness of benefits entitlements, housing rights, immigrations issues and better understanding of the British education system. The target wards were African families living in Tottenham Hale, Bruce Grove, Northumberland Park, White Hart Lane, West Green and Seven Sisters. Somali and French speaking communities were the main target audience of the event.

This was a big event bringing together several services including:

- RTB/CAB
- Housing
- Immigration
- LBH benefits
- CYPS
- Haringey Somali Forum
- Speaker from the community on Child Poverty Issues


Improving Women's Health Empowerment through African and Refugee Women's Well-Being Project

Our aim is to:

  • Raise awareness of ‘mental health’ problems in the African and refugee communities on issues such as anxiety, isolation, depression etc.
  • Promote the ‘mental health’, stability and holistic well-being of African and refugee women.
  • Provide community education through culturally sensitive workshops, seminars and training. Offer social and emotional support.
  • Offer social and emotional support.
  • Offer advice & guidance in a culturally sensitive environment.
