Welcome to AWWG

WHO WE ARE

AWWG is a Pan African womens grass root organisation founded in 1989 by a number of African women to meet the needs and advocate the rights of newly arrived African women refugees and asylum seekers in the UK through the provision of outreach services, general advice and information, health promotion, support in accessing health and social care services, immigration advice and information and campaigns against female genital mutilation (FGM). It became a registered charity in 1992 and it is managed by a seven (7-) member management committee

Our programme development is contiguous with agreed local, regional and national priorities thus ensuring the formation of real partnership. These relationships enable AWWG to influence policy development and shape programme implementation at every level. Consequently, we are able to offer a complementary service, which through our affiliations ensures Pan African involvement across geographical and cultural boundaries.

Programme Management

The entire programmes we develop are properly researched, with appropriate work schedule and delivery plan to ensure that agreed objectives, programme outcomes and monitoring requirements are met. Each project is assigned a Co-ordinator and is supported by a proficient team of advisors and specialists. Our management approach involves more than providing a service. We ensure that we have recognisable delivery models that are informed by the community base. In so doing we are able to sustain user participation and give users a sense of ownership.
